"We started a fundraiser a while back and we’ve been collecting donations from people and now we're seeing a lot more donations coming in to different projects, either our project for humanitarian aid or for our partner projects for tactical medicine," Rodion Yaryy, volunteer and board member, told KCBS Radio.

Nova Ukraine didn't just start overnight, in fact Yaryy explained the non-profit has been working for almost a decade to help Ukraine recover from social and economic crisis.

"Our nonprofit has been doing this for the last eight years," he said. "Everything that we've done so far just has to happen on a much larger scale. Our organization and the volunteers here are uniquely prepared for that."

The non-profit is now working with personnel on the ground to provide aid to the country.

"We're collecting money for emergency medical training and medical care for civilians and we're partnering with local volunteers to distribute humanitarian aid right there on the grounds," Yaryy said.

Since its start in 2013, Nova Ukraine has collected over $500,000 in donations for Ukraine.
