Not long after parts of the Bay Area will experience light rainfall, some of the region could encounter critical fire weather conditions.

The National Weather Service Bay Area on Friday issued a Fire Weather Watch for 11 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Tuesday due to gusty offshore winds and dry weather conditions. The East Bay hills and mountains, especially at elevations above 1,000 feet, and the interior North Bay are under particular notice, according to the agency.

A Fire Weather Watch is just below a Red Flag Warning, and the National Weather Service tweeted on Friday that any new fires could grow at a moderate-to-rapid pace due to the expected conditions early next week.

The National Weather Service Sacramento also issued a Fire Weather Watch for parts of Northern California during the same timeframe, including areas affected by the Dixie and Caldor Fires. Those two remain the state’s largest active wildfires, burning 960,641 acres and 218,857, respectively. The Dixie Fire was 88% contained as of Friday night, while the Caldor Fire was 71% contained.

Parts of the Bay Area will experience light rainfall late Saturday and overnight into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. The North Bay is the likeliest to experience rain, with no parts of the region expected to encounter more than a tenth of an inch of rain.
