
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Crews have stopped a growing brush fire in San Rafael which prompted a small number of homes to be evacuated late Monday.

The fire was reported between Deer Valley Road and Highland Avenue, close to the campus of Dominican University of California in downtown San Rafael.
San Rafael police said officials conducted door-to-door evacuations as the fire moved in the direction of the 200 block of Highland Avenue and Summit Avenue.
Other homes in the area were also placed under an evacuation warning.
The fire was first reported at about 10 p.m.
Officials tweeted at 11:06 p.m. that they had stopped forward progress on the blaze at two acres and crews remained on the scene "throughout the night."
Finally, at 11:22 p.m., officials said it was safe for evacuated San Rafael residents to return to their homes.
