Every two years, the California State Legislature convenes on the first Monday of December to swear-in the new coalition.

It’s never looked quite like this.

"We’re not supposed to gather in large numbers and even the state Assembly chamber has been deemed too small for the number of assembly members that need to be sworn in," Assemblymember Marc Levine told KCBS Radio.

Levine, who represents the North Bay, said that’s why they are holding this particular session at the Golden 1 Center, where the Sacramento Kings play.

Though, no visitors will be allowed.

"For the first time, my wife won’t be with me when I take the oath of office," he added.

San Francisco Assemblymember Marc Berman said safety was the priority in selecting the location, which has advanced air filtration and plenty of space.

"It made more sense to find a much bigger space," Berman said.

It will also be the first day to submit new bills for consideration.

A number of locations were considered.
