For the first time in more than a year, California's Great America theme park in Santa Clara is preparing to welcome back visitors.

Great America was the first theme park in the state to close during the coronavirus pandemic, but that changes Saturday.

The RailBlazer and other popular roller coasters will be open to visitors once again.

“We are about as excited as we can be after being shut down for a year,” said General Manager Barb Granter.

She told KCBS Radio that guests will still need to wear masks, although the park has set up several "relaxed zones" for unmasking.

“We know that sometimes the children or the little ones have a little trouble with the regulations like that, and families can find a relaxed zone throughout the park and then they can take off their masks and stay in their social groups and enjoy some time without their mask on,” Granter said.

Reservations are required because capacity in the Santa Clara theme park is limited.
