Caltrans Oakland headquarters evacuates after report of gunman

OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS RADIO) – The Caltrans headquarters in Oakland was evacuated Wednesday morning after reports of a gunman were made.

The building at 111 Grand Ave. was placed on lockdown at 6:40 a.m. when someone reported seeing a person with a gun in the garage.

California Highway Patrol officers conducted a sweep of the headquarters, going floor to floor searching for a suspect and ensuring people were leaving safely. They quickly identified a suspect and a suspect vehicle and have confirmed that the suspect is no longer on the premises.

The lockdown was lifted at 7:40 a.m. Employees are now be allowed back into the building to retrieve their cars from the garage. Caltrans is allowing some employees to work from home for the rest of the day.
