A Concord police officer on Friday saved an unresponsive 2-year-old who “got ahold of some fentanyl," officials said.

While on patrol, Officer Khamosh was flagged down by a frantic driver on Salvio St., the Concord Police Department posted Monday on Facebook.

Khamosh found a toddler who had stopped breathing in the back seat of the car, and immediately began life-saving measures including chest compressions and CPR, officials said.

The officer could not find a pulse.

Eventually, the mother revealed that the child had “got ahold of some fentanyl,” police said.

Khamosh administered two doses of Narcan, a drug used when a person is having an overdose. He continued CPR, and the toddler started breathing and regained consciousness, according to authorities.

Medics rushed the baby to a hospital, and the child is now recovering at Children’s Hospital Oakland.

Officials said the mother of the toddler was arrested and charged with child endangerment and possession of a narcotic, and the 2-year-old is now under the care of Child and Family Services.
