Thousands who design and build video games have descended on San Francisco for the Game Developers Conference trade show after a two-year hiatus.
"We have our international travelers that have come back and especially with the game developers conference, it's a very international conference," Nicole Rodgers told KCBS Radio. "So, I had a lot of people that didn't speak English today, that were on the streets just kind of asking for directions."
Rodgers is the Chief Sales Officer and Executive Vice President of San Francisco Travel, she said conferences returning to the city adds a different atmosphere downtown.
"Last year we had a total of 5 conferences that were in the Moscone Center, but this year for 2022 we have about 37 on the books and we are still booking, believe it or not, people are still booking short term so we may have more," she explained.
Nearby businesses around the convention center are ramping up to serve and parking lots, restaurants, food trucks are busy. And the multi-lingual 'Welcome Ambassadors' in Orange are assisting a number of international guests.
The numbers are not quite back to 2019 levels but Rodgers said there is excitement as conferences return and people feel more comfortable traveling.
