Deputies with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office responded to a call Tuesday night to The Lakes, a wealthy neighborhood in Discovery Bay, about a "domestic situation."

When deputies arrived on the scene at the 800 block of Westport Circle, a person armed with a gun reportedly "came at them."

The person was struck, and taken to a nearby hospital where they subsequently died of their injuries.

The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office has released few details about the shooting, but they did tweet out a picture of the firearm, which appears to be an assault rifle.

The investigation is ongoing and the Oakley Police Department is also involved.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office did not respond to KCBS Radio's request for comment at the time of publication.
