Fire crews have knocked out a two-alarm house fire that burned at least one home in Martinez on Wednesday afternoon.
Officials said it was a single structure fire, in the vicinity of the 100 block of Cambark Courtand just west of interstate 680 and downtown Martinez. Crew are continuing mop-up operations.
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman Steve Hill told KCBS Radio that the fire was reported about 1:50 p.m., and crews quickly arrived on scene.
Neighboring structures are protected, but the blaze burned out several surrounding cars and materials. A vegetation fire broke out as well, however crews have extinguished that.
No injuries have been reported.
The fire was visible on I-680 near the Pacheco Boulevard exit in Martinez and emitted quite a lot of thick smoke in the region. KCBS Radio reported traffic on I-680 through Martinez is slowing in the area of the fire. The freeway remains open.
Hill asks people to stay out of the area while they continue to put out hot spots.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
“We’ve been hearing some small explosions, but it’s difficult to say what those are right now,” Hill said. “Our investigators will get a little better sense of that once they get into the fire scene,”
Hill said he heard reports of fireworks inside the building, but that has not been confirmed.
