An Alameda County entrepreneur is bringing nature to life by selling plant-shaped pillows.

Sabine Hermann opened a shop on Etsy about 8 years ago, but when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she relied on her online business even more.

“Almost every day I go on a hike here in the beautiful Berkeley hills and I take photos of plants,” she said.

“Instead of just printing them out and hanging them on my wall, I print them on fabric and a sew them into the shape of the actual object,” she said.

Hermann said they resemble items you would see outside — like cacti and beautiful flowers — giving nature lovers a sense of peace inside their homes.

“Our homes are really reflecting on to us how we feel,” she said. “The pillows are such a great way to bring a little bit of the outdoors inside for people who do not have the option to go outside.”

Since the start of the pandemic, her sales have gone up. In total, she has sold 3,000 pillows with a lot of orders consisting of more than one pillow.

In addition to the plant pillows, she also sells face masks. She hopes to reach senior living facilities in the future.

“It makes me feel part of the community and I’m really happy to do that,” Hermann said.
