Oakland police are investigating a Saturday morning double-homicide after a 37-year-old father and his 1-year-old daughter died in a suspicious residential fire.

The incident may be linked to a series of other events, including a fatal shooting and another possible arson fire last week.

At 12:15 a.m., Oakland police and firefighters rushed to the scene of a suspicious residential structure fire near Stearns and 98th Avenues.

Oakland Police Department Chief LeRonne Armstrong said several people were trapped inside, and after firefighters extinguished the blaze, they found two victims.

“In addition to the impact of losing a 1-year-old child and a father, the mother is also pregnant with a child,” he said. “So, just an all-around really horrific scene.”

The mother has been taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Police said the blaze may be related to two other incidents: a fatal shooting April 10 at a liquor store on 90th Avenue and an arson fire at the same location four days later.

“We begin to look closer at the linkage between all these incidents and try to better understand is there a connection between those, and that’s where we are right now,” Armstrong said.

Police believe the incidents may be gang related.

A suspect in the April 10 shooting turned himself in on Thursday. He was arrested and the case was forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
