SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Three people were hospitalized – two with life-threatening injuries – following an early morning fire in the East Bay.
The Alameda Fire Department said on Monday that three people were taken to local hospitals following a one-alarm residential fire on the 700 block of Buena Vista Avenue. Firefighters responded at 3:21 a.m., controlling the blaze 24 minutes later after briefly closing the block and part of 8th Street to traffic.
Alameda Fire Chief Nick Luby told the Bay Area News Group on Monday that one victim was a child. Firefighters found him when they arrived on the scene.
Officials said firefighters rescued two people from inside the home. The pair was treated for life-threatening injuries at a nearby hospital, officials said in Instagram and Twitter posts on Monday morning.
In Monday morning's social media posts, Alameda fire officials didn't initially disclose any information about the victims' identities, noting only that two victims were found in the home and a "third victim" was outside of it.
As of press time on Monday afternoon, the Alameda Fire Department had not released a subsequent update on the victims' condition. A spokesperson didn’t respond to KCBS Radio's voicemail requesting comment prior to publication.
