Elderly Alameda house fire victims succumb to injuries, young child remains hospitalized

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Two elderly victims of an East Bay house fire have succumbed to their injuries.

The residential fire – which happened early Monday at about 3:20 a.m. in the 700 block of Buena Vista Avenue in Alamedahospitalized three people, two with life-threatening injuries. An 80-year-old woman and 85-year-old man later died as a result of those injuries, according to a social media post from the Alameda Fire Department.

The third victim, reported to be a child, remains in the hospital with unknown injuries. Firefighters found him when they arrived on the scene. "We are deeply saddened by this and our thoughts are with their family and loved ones, and the entire Alameda community," officials said.

The elderly victims were grandparents to the younger victim, KPIX reported.

Firefighters responded to the one-alarm fire at 3:21 a.m. on Monday, getting the flames under control an estimated 24 minutes later after briefly closing surrounding streets to traffic.

The victim's identities have not been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
