An elderly Asian victim of a violent robbery earlier this week in Oakland has been taken off life support.

Pak Ho, 75, was left brain dead after Tuesday's vicious attack.

He was robbed of his wallet and phone and punched to the ground near his home as he took his morning walk not far from Lake Merritt in the city’s Adams Point neighborhood. Ho hit his head on the pavement, suffering a traumatic head injury and brain damage.

He was taken off life support on Thursday.

The suspect, Teaunte Bailey, was arrested hours after the incident.

Bailey is a parolee with an ankle monitor. Police said they tracked the 26-year-old down after he fled a traffic stop. Bailey was also wanted for a residential robbery in Oakland last month and had recently been released on a pending robbery case in San Francisco.

Ho's death is being investigated as a hate crime.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said Bailey is facing murder charges with special circumstances, which could send him to life in prison without parole, or trigger the death penalty.
