The Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe opened up in 2002 at Park Avenue and Hollis Street in Emeryville, quickly winning the hearts of the previous establishment’s clientele.
"With a heavy heart, Rudy's will be permanently closing," said the post. "Thank you to all of our amazing staff, customers, & community for making Rudy's the incredible place it was."
Rudy's was born in the space after the previous owners, the Yee family, relinquished Eugene's Ranch House.
Eugene's Ranch House had been open since 1964 when it shuttered its doors in 2000, according to reporting by The San Francisco Chronicle, and many locals mourned the loss of the $1.95 breakfast deal – two pancakes, an egg and two pieces of bacon or sausage.
But despite the updated interiors and increased prices, the new owners that took over in 2002 managed to retain the integrity of the space, honoring their predecessors throughout the last two decades.
"20 years ago we strived to create that same environment and ethos that the Yee Family did at Eugene's Ranch House for 40 years before us and now it is time for Rudy to pass the torch," said the post.
"The slogan 'The Best People on Earth Walk Through These Doors' was written on both of our front doors for a combined 60 plus years, this must say something about the community that we will always love," said the post.
The Emeryville location also had a connection to Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt and has made appearances on TV, such as Guy Fieri’s "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives," according to reporting by the Emeryville Eye.
Along with a statement, the cafe also posted a farewell retrospective on their Instagram page on Monday, set to Green Day's classic coming-of-age ballad, "Good Riddance."
