A portion of San Francisco's Western Addition has been evacuated Thursday due to a gas leak and subsequent fire.

San Francisco Fire Department officials tell KCBS Radio construction workers hit a gas line just after 3 p.m. on Fulton St. between Pierce St. and Steiner St., near Alamo Square and the famous Painted Ladies.

One person suffered minor injuries.

Overhead shots of the scene showed a fire burning at the top of the line that's leaking. PG&E crews arrived to shut off the gas at about 4 p.m.

People are being asked to avoid the area. Traffic was being rerouted.
