In an attempt to save his two young children, a father has lost his life.

The three were at Sonoma County’s Blind Beach on Sunday, when around 2:30 p.m. the man’s six-year-old daughter and four-year-old son were swept out to sea by a massive wave.

The father, 40, ran into the water to save his children, when he too was swept out and drowned.

The man’s body was pulled from the ocean after several agencies and rescue swimmers arrived, according KRON. Sheriff officials said one of the children's shoes and a jacket have washed ashore, but their bodies have not been found.

They are presumed dead.

Multiple first-responding departments in Sonoma County are investigating and assisting the search efforts.
