In 2021, Aldon Smith, 33, was arrested for rear-ending a truck on a Redwood City off-ramp, then police say he offered the driver $1,000 for a ride and not to tell the cops.

The driver did call and California Highway Patrol officers found bottles of liquor in Smith's car. He had a blood alcohol reading of over 0.28.

Smith initially pled not guilty at his arraignment, according to reporting by the Mercury News, but changed it when the judge offered a sentence of just 16 months in prison.

He entered his guilty plea in San Mateo County Superior Court in what was supposed to be a short trial on Thursday.

A court hearing is scheduled for March 16, according to the outlet, when Judge Kevin Dunleavy will rule on other possible options besides the 16 months.

The NFL player was released from the Niners in 2015 after three DUI arrests and then released from the Raiders a couple of years later after an arrest for domestic violence.

Regardless of what his sentence winds up being, he will be required to adhere to three years of probation.
