Former San Francisco Public Works Director Mohammed Nuru was taken into custody on Wednesday morning following a bizarre incident at the SF-Marin Food Bank in the city's Dogpatch neighborhood.
Food bank officials told KCBS Radio someone was sitting in the volunteer break room early Wednesday when Nuru approached them with a small kitchen knife. That person felt threatened and called police.
Officers arrived around 11:15 a.m.
The victim told them that Nuru had tried to rob him.
Food bank officials can't confirm what took place, but added the 58-year-old Nuru is a longtime volunteer and has never caused any problems.
The FBI arrested Nuru and San Francisco restaurateur Nick Bovis in January 2020, accusing the two of attempting to bribe a San Francisco airport commissioner in 2018. Since Nuru's arrest, a dozen defendants linked to the corruption investigation have been charged in federal court.
