Officers rescued a woman on Thursday morning who was apparently kidnapped by a Fremont man in an incident witnessed by several people about nine hours earlier.
The alleged kidnapping took place on Mowry Ave. near Mission Blvd. in Fremont at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses confronted the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Marquice McClinton, who "violently pulled" the woman into his vehicle before he driving off, police said.

Investigators were quickly able to identify McClinton, a man police said is "a well-known prolific offender." He has previous arrests for attempted murder, firearms possession, felony evading resisting arrest and possession of drugs.
After searching for McClinton "throughout the night," police said his vehicle was spotted at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday. That led to a pursuit, which was joined by a San Jose police helicopter. Officers eventually forced McClinton to stop his vehicle near Sundale Dr. and Fremont Blvd. and arrested him after a short standoff.
There were no injuries. Officers located the victim about an hour later.
It's not clear where the woman was being held or what her condition was.
McClinton was booked at Santa Rita Jail on charges of kidnapping, felony domestic violence, false imprisonment, and felony evading. According to a news release, McClinton was also wanted on a separate warrant for felony evading at the time of this arrest.
Last month, McClinton fled a traffic stop in which police said he "discarded a replica firearm while driving a vehicle with stolen license plates."
The incident is under investigation.
