Owners of the Oakland Ghost Ship warehouse where three dozen people died in a fire have filed for bankruptcy to end a civil lawsuit against them.
Chor Nar Siu Ng, Eva Ng and Kai Ng filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on April 30 in order to pay $11.8 million to survivors of the fire and family members of the deceased victims, the Oaklandside reported.

The Ghost Ship warehouse in Fruitvale tragically caught fire on Dec. 2, 2016, during a party due to shoddy electrical wiring. 36 people lost their lives in the blaze.
The Ng family plans to liquidate their assets, acquiring $4.8 million from the sale of their properties including the sale of the Ghost Ship, the newspaper stated.
Paying off the proposed settlement will conclude the civil lawsuit filed by victims’ families and survivors against Ng, the city of Oakland, PG&E and master tenant Derick Almena.
Last year, the city of Oakland agreed to pay $23.5 million to the victims’ families as well as a survivor of the fire, Samuel Maxwell, who was badly injured.
PG&E’s settlement, which was also finalized in 2020, is private.
