Google is set to reopen its Northern California offices starting July 12.
Those who want to return to the tech giant's Mountain View, Redwood City and San Francisco's offices can do so on a voluntary basis next month. It's a starting point in Google's plan to require most workers back in September for at least three days a week.
Google will not require workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, but those who show proof of vaccination will be allowed to remove their mask in the office. Employees who are not vaccinated will still be mandated to wear a mask and have a weekly COVID-19 test, a Google spokesperson told KCBS Radio.
The company’s Southern California offices will reopen in two waves: One on July 13 and another onJuly 27. The offices won’t have capacity limits and will not require social distancing. Slowly, the company plans on bringing back its signature perks of free food and shuttle busses.
In May, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, wrote he expected 80% of the company's. employees would work remotely on at least a part-time basis.
