John Madden's move from the sidelines to media was an impressive one.
For years, he was known as a head coach – transitioning successfully to the broadcast booth to team with the late Pat Summerall. "There were so many of those episodes where the very same things that kind of bugged all of us in life, John would just laser beam in on. That's what made him such a valuable commentator," KCBS Radio Anchor Emeritus Stan Bunger mused.

We had a lot of fun with John on KCBS Radio over the years, including this classic clip featuring legendary comedian Tommy Smothers.
The Madden Family is holding a public memorial in celebration of John's life on Monday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland.
Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.
They cost $32.14, the final score of Super Bowl XI when Coach Madden's Raiders beat the Minnesota Vikings to win their first Super Bowl. All proceeds will be directed to Madden Charities for the benefit of the John Madden Foundation to provide educational opportunities for the youth of Oakland.
