
There was a heavy police presence on the Bay Bridge Thursday morning as California Highway Patrol officers conducted an investigation following a fatal shooting.
At around 9:12 a.m., a man, woman and two children were traveling in a maroon and gray SUV on westbound I-80 near West Grand Ave. when their vehicle was struck by gunfire, police said.

When CHP officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from gunshot wounds in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
KCBS Radio's Jim Taylor, who was at the scene, reported seeing a coroner vehicle and a body in the SUV covered by a blanket.


The man and two children were uninjured, police said.
Four lanes of westbound Interstate Highway 80 near West Grand Ave. were closed as officers searched for evidence, but have since been opened.
