A hiker last seen at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park on Wednesday afternoon has gone missing, the park announced.
Forty-seven year old Matthew Thoke was traversing the park’s Sierra Trail around 1 p.m. on July 21, three miles east of the Crescent Meadow trailhead, and just east of Panther Creek. Thoke split off from his group and went south, walking downhill off trail without his black overnight backpack, the park said. He has not been seen since.
Thoke, a white male, is at listed six feet tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
The park is asking for the public’s help in locating the missing hiker. Anyone with information or that walked the High Sierra Trail between Kaweah Gap and Crescent Meadow between Wednesday and Thursday, regardless of whether they saw him, is asked to contact the park's dispatch at 888-677-2746, or by email at SEKI_Dispatch@nps.gov.
