SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Earthquakes have been on most of our minds these past few months, and it seems like each week brings news of yet another tremor, with most recently the 6.4 magnitude Northern California quake that left two dead.

For those looking to make their homes a little safer after the quake this week, there are several options.
Homeowners with residences built before the 1970s should definitely get their homes inspected.
"If your home is older, pre-1970s, and it's built on the right foundation – one of the biggest, most common issues we find is underneath the house," said Ron Chang, owner of WIN Home Inspection.
In newer homes, Chang also focuses his attention initially on underneath the house as well.
But before people can call for an inspection, there are some issues homeowners can look for on their own.
"Take a look at the siding of your home, which is basically the exterior, if it's stucco or if it's wood," said Chang.
If there are cracks in whatever material makes up the siding of the house, then that means there might be issues with the foundation.
Another issue to keep an eye out for is if there is moisture collecting around the base of the house.
"That is something that is a red flag or an early warning that there could be something wrong with the home," he said.
But these are issues that are easy to spot in an inspection, and once they are discovered, can be relatively simple to fix.
