The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has extended its air quality advisory through the weekend due to wildfire smoke expected to blow into the bay.

The district initially issued an advisory through Thursday, then Friday. On Friday, the district said the advisory would last through Sunday.

Officials still aren't expecting to issue a Spare the Air Alert as winds carry smoke from the Northern California and Southern Oregon wildfires into the region.

But some North and East Bay residents at higher elevations could experience smoky conditions during the advisory.

Smoke moving into the Bay Area will likely remain aloft, but there could be some impacts upon air quality as well as hazy skies visible throughout the region.

If you smell smoke, the Air District recommends staying inside and closing windows and doors until levels with subside.

Anyone with respiratory conditions should take extra precautions to avoid the smoke, the district said.
