Redding police made a grisly discovery last Friday at the site of a future Costco location currently under construction.
Native American Archeological Monitors contracted by the company overseeing the development project found the skeletal remains Friday evening at 5:25 p.m., according to a news release issued by the Redding Police Department on Monday.

Officers, along with the Shasta County Coroner's Office investigated the scene, and confirmed that the remains were in fact human, but initial examination suggests they are not historical.
Police have since blocked off the area, but construction has continued on parts of the development not involved in the scene.
The coroner’s office has been able to assess some of the remains easy to obtain at the ground's surface, but still has yet to determine just exactly how old they are.
The California State University, Chico Anthropology Department was dispatched to the scene to assist in excavating the skeletal remains on Tuesday.
Redding police did not respond to KCBS Radio's request for comment at the time of publication.
Investigators are asking that anyone with information related to the case contact the Redding Police Department Detective Division at (530)225-4200.
