All lanes of I-80 near Fairfield will be closed overnight Saturday into Sunday morning due to a major road improvement project.
Caltrans gave drivers a heads up in a Twitter post, warning that if you travel between the Bay Area and Sacramento this weekend a three mile stretch of I-80 will be closed from 11 p.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday.

The road is undergoing a massive reconstruction, Caltrans spokesperson Pedro Quintana told KCBS Radio. Crews are planning to tear down and remove a connector bridge on the freeway.
Tearing up roads and building new ones requires lots of raw materials, but roadwork has surprisingly not been hampered by global supply chain shortages. "We really haven't had any issues in regards to supply or in regards to traffic impacts as well," Quintana said.
In fact, because volumes have been so low during the pandemic, crews have been able to complete more highway projects, Quintana said.
