The Dutch Fire erupted at 12:51 p.m. in the area of Ridge Road and the small community of Dutch Flat, next to I-80, which caused the busy interstate to close in both directions and caused massive traffic diversions and congestion.
Only westbound I-80, starting at the highway 20 separation, was shut down when the fire first sparked, however by 3:15 p.m. eastbound I-80 was also closed beginning in Colfax, Caltrans said.
The fire also caused multiple areas to be evacuated, orders which were all lifted by 6:26 p.m., according to the Placer County Sheriff's Department.
Meanwhile, I-80 was reopened in both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane by approximately 10 p.m.
The fire has burned 48 acres and is 50% contained, according to CAL FIRE’s Wednesday morning update.
