A man was arrested Friday for setting an illegal campfire which ignited a small grass fire in the hills of Woodside.

The incident occurred on the 1100 block of Kings Mountain Road at 11:40 a.m according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. Woodside Fire responded to the scene and noticed a man, identified as 20 year-old Alejandro Bello, leaving the area on a bicycle.

Deputies said they learned Bello started a campfire earlier in the day, but did not fully extinguish it, which sparked a grass fire in the area. Woodside Fire was able to extinguish the fire.

The fire did not result in any injuries.

The suspect was arrested, transported and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.

The Sheriff’s Office noted it has zero tolerance for illegal campfires during this fire season.
