Meet Sung Park, owner and chef at Kothai Republic. His community-focused mission is personal and the restaurant at 9th & Judah in the Sunset is a welcoming extension of his home.
"We aim to nourish, delight, and bring goodness to our community. Kothai Republic serves really good food made by people that genuinely care." Sung Park, Kothai Republic,
Kothai Republic's flavorful menu isn't tied to a specific region, but is instead a modern interpretation of Asian cuisine through the lens of Sung, first-generation San Francisco native chef and the entire kitchen staff.
Using as many local ingredients as possible, all elements, from the kimchi to the sauces, are house made. Highlights include:
Grilled Hamachi Collar - Charred broccolini, bread crumbs, seafood sauce, house chili oil
Kothai Ceviche - Cured sweet red shrimp, garlic, shallot, dill, mint, little gem
Monterey Squid - Lemongrass chili, butter beans, charred tomato, roasted pepper, currants
Slow Shrooms - Maitake Confit, purslane, parsnip, meyer lemon oil, trinity sauce
Enjoy my tasty talk with Sung Park, the visionary behind Kothai Republic. We did some research and development together on a pork chop dish and worked through Sung's passionate process. As you'll discover in our conversation this restaurant is a love letter to the Sunset neighborhood and the city San Francisco, that he and his wife Dava and team so dearly love.
