Foppoli was accused last year of sexually assaulting multiple women and has been under investigation since, most recently having his home raided for evidence in November, as previously reported by KCBS Radio.
The transitioning of some of the case over to the Attorney General's Office is "This is one step closer to finalizing the investigation," said Sgt. Juan Valencia with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office over email.
This is "a common step in an investigation," said Valencia.
As of right now, it's unclear when the investigation will be completed, he said.
Several items were confiscated in the search in November, as previously reported by KCBS Radio, including three iPads, two laptops, a cellphone, a recording device, a camera, a USB drive, and miscellaneous DVDs and CDs.
Foppoli has been accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, dating back to 2002 and as recently as March 2021. The accusations include rape, groping, and other crimes.
Foppoli resigned as mayor in May 2021.
"To protect its integrity, we're unable to comment on an ongoing investigation," the California Attorney General's Office told KCBS Radio in an email on Tuesday.
