Think it was a chilly July in San Francisco? It was historically cold, meteorologists say

August is famous for fog in San Francisco.

But weather in the month of July brought an unusual cooling pattern not seen in over half a century as temperatures never made it into the 70s in the city, according to the National Weather Service.


That hasn't happened since 1965.

The highest recorded temperature last month was 69 degrees.

On July 12, San Francisco reached a maximum high temperature of 57 degrees, which tied a record low first set in 1899 and matched in 1912.

It was a bit warmer in the East Bay, but in San Francisco, where the highest temperatures hit triple digits in Concord and Livermore. San Francisco's weather will likely change in the coming weeks – according to meteorologists who predict temperatures will be warming.

Air quality in the Bay Area has remained good.

However, because of ongoing wildfires in Northern California, areas around Tahoe and the Sacramento Valley have had a number of days where daily air quality numbers have been exceptionally poor.
