Now, the federal courts have responded as well.

The decision was made "due to recent developments in the COVID-19 public health emergency, including the rapid spread of the Omicron variant," the announcement said on the website as well as, "all criminal and civil jury trials in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California will be suspended until after January 26, 2022."

This includes both civil and criminal trials at U.S. District Courts in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose, according to reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle.

State trials in Superior Court held throughout the Bay Area will continue.

The announcement comes on the heels of another California court making the same decision, the Central District of California, the paper reported. There has been an uptick in cases at the district’s courthouses in Los Angeles, Santa Ana, and Riverside, the paper reported.
