EVENT:TULIPS FROM AMERICA
It’s an endless field of tulips this Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and you are invited. Come one, come all to this massive tulip fest in celebration of International Women’s Day at Union Square, San Francisco. It’s a beautiful sight with more than 80,000 tulips on the square, and it will be a super fun photo op too.

FREE: MUSEUMS AROUND THE BAY
Thanks to the generosity of the nice people at Bank of America, cardholders may enjoy local museums for free this weekend. Participating museums include the de Young Museum, Contemporary Jewish Museum and the Legion of Honor.

FILM: COCAINE BEAR
Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine and the black bear that ate it, this wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest. A 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more cocaine and blood. This film is now playing and stars Keri Russell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and the legendary Ray Liotta in his final screen performance.

EAT HERE: ACRE KITCHEN & BAR
Meet the new kid on the block, ACRE Kitchen & Bar - located in the former Oliveto space - on College Avenue at the intersection of Berkeley and Oakland. ACRE is open Sunday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The menu is driven by seasonality and sustainability boasting California-Mediterranean fare and shared plates like Mezze, Garlic Shrimp, Pizza Fritta and Potato Gnocchi. For dinner, you can try delicious dishes like Braised Umpqua Lamb Sugo, Rotisserie Cooked Venture Chicken, Grilled Maitake Mushrooms and Whole Roasted Branzino. I rarely order chicken at a restaurant, but I had to order the chicken here, and I am so glad I did. At the helm is Partner and Chef, Dirk Tolsma, formerly of Epic Steak in San Francisco. Restaurant veteran and icon in my book, Pete Sittnick is also a partner, so you know the front of house and the rear will be in fine shape. The wine list is broad and impressive, but the cocktails rocked even more. I love the nod to Oakland and enjoyed the Oakland’s Own 16 made of white rum, orange curacao, lime, orgeat and dark rum. Make a reservation soon because word is getting out that ACRE is the spot to eat on College Avenue. Enjoy my Foodie Chap chat with Chef Dirk and Pete here.

SAVE THE DATE: SONOMA EPICUREAN

Join us in Sonoma County March 9 through March 12 for adventures and experiences focused on lifestyle, wellness and sustainability. Proceeds from the event will benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research to fund game-changing cancer research and related programs. I am honored to return for my second year as the Sonoma Epicurean auctioneer.

APPEAL: GUIDE DOGS
Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) is looking to expand its pool of volunteer puppy raisers by embarking on a pilot puppy-raising initiative in March in Northern California. GDB’s Hybrid Puppy Raising Project team will be accepting interest forms until March 15, 2023, from people who live within 50 miles of its headquarters in San Rafael. Unlike GDB’s traditional puppy-raising program, which is primarily supported by in-person meetings with a volunteer’s local GDB puppy-raising club, this new approach will offer support through a hybrid model of online training, webinars, and in-person workshops from the organization’s expert puppy-raising team. Guide Dogs for the Blind will host an introductory meeting to discuss the hybrid program via Zoom on March 16, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
