FOODIE FRIDAY: MATTY’s OLD FASHIONED
It’s been a decade or two since James Beard nominated Chef Matt Horn first cooked a burger in an outdoor grill with his pops. Suffice to say, Chef Matt has mastered the art of the perfect burger and he wants to share one with you at his new spot in the “510” Matty's Old Fashioned. Hanging with the cool kids in the vibrant heart of Oakland on 8th street downtown, Matty's is a love letter to the classic American diner.
There’s an inviting vibe here giving the feeling that the rat pack (Frank, Sammy & Dean)could pop by at any moment. The menu is a meat lover's fantasy land.
Highlights:
- Fried Bologna sandwich is stacked to the gills with piggy parts and was off the charts delish
Mac & cheese, naughty creamy goodness loaded with lobster
- Sea dip - this was a creamy, fishy (crab & shrimp), salty, yummy surprise
- Matty’s Burger - two patties on a perfect brioche black sesame bun with molten cheese & sautéed sweet onion. My dining pals loved loved loved the burger. I have to return to get my fix & report back !
- Matty’s old fashioned Strawberry shake. This hit the spot and was the perfect sweet ending to my decedent “diner”dinner.
Congrats Matt Horn, a star Chef who continues to make his mark in the Town with a cool, new restaurant he designed and a menu that allows the ingredients to sing and shine. Matty’s Old Fashion is open daily from 5 P.M. - 11 P.M. and here’s my interview with Chef Matt Horn:
