The Los Altos High School campus is clear of danger after a person anonymously called in a bomb threat to a school staff member that prompted evacuations from campus Friday morning, according to officials.

The Los Altos Police Department and Santa Clara County Fire Department remained on the scene around 1:30 p.m. as bomb-detection dogs and units continued to inspect the campus, a fire department spokesperson told KCBS Radio in a phone interview. Just before 2 p.m., the department tweeted that there was "no threat to public safety in the area."

Just before 9 a.m., an anonymous caller said there was an explosive on campus, the fire department spokesperson said. Police arrived on the scene within minutes, just ahead of the county fire department. Students then evacuated to the football and baseball fields, according to the spokesperson.

Students remained on the fields for up to two hours, before they were cleared to be picked up by their parents or walk home following the cancellation of class, avoiding Almond Avenue as it was closed to traffic. The "vast majority" of students left campus during that time, and students were ultimately allowed to return to campus to retrieve their belongings just before 2 p.m.

A Los Altos Police Department official said its watch commander would provide an update to KCBS Radio when they returned to the police station. Officials with Los Altos High School and the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District didn’t respond to calls from KCBS Radio seeking comment. This story will be updated when we hear back.
