San Francisco police are releasing few details about an officer involved shooting that took place on Market St. between 5th and 4th streets Tuesday evening.

Police officials say officers were first called to the scene around 5 p.m. on reports of men in a fight.

“Officers arrived on scene and located a male who was brandishing a knife. During this contact an officer involved shooting occurred on the 800 block of Market Street,” said SFPD Officer Robert Rueca.

Officers and a sheriff’s deputy first used a beanbag gun and a TASER before at least one officer fired on one of the men, according to Rueca.

“As to the steps and the timeframes of what occurred here are all under investigation. We are reviewing body-worn cameras, eyewitness statements as well as any video surveillance that caught the incident," he said.

The man was hospitalized and his condition has not been released.

Rueca did not say what led up to the incident or why the officer(s) may have fired on the man. They are asking anyone who witnessed either the reported fight or the shooting to contact the SFPD.
