Around dawn Friday morning the man was walking next to the cliff when suddenly the ground collapsed under him, according to a Facebook post by CAL FIRE's San Mateo-Santa Cruz unit.
He was stuck on the side of the cliff, but fortunately, a woman walking nearby heard him yelling for help around 8:30 a.m.
The Coastside Fire Protection District responded to the scene and was able to successfully pull him up using a "high angle rope rescue system."
The rescue took a total of 22 minutes after emergency personnel had arrived to the site. Fortunately, despite the steep tumble, the man was uninjured.
"Avoid walking next to the cliff, as the ground is always unstable," said CAL FIRE in the post. "Also, if you are stuck on the side of the cliff, stay put, and call for help, just like this man did. You are safer staying in that location than you are of trying to climb up or down on your own."
