Amid the dominant delta variant, employees at San Francisco restaurants are testing positive for COVID-19.

Some restaurant owners have chosen to close their doors temporarily until everyone tests negative for the virus.

"San Francisco was pretty isolated, but recently, especially in the last couple weeks, just talking to chefs and talking to friends in the city and in the Bay Area in general, I’m getting worried that a lot of people, a lot of staff members are getting infected," said acclaimed Michelin-starred chef, Mourad Lahlou.

Lahlou is the owner of the beloved restaurants Mourad and Aziza in San Francisco.

Recently, he had to make a difficult decision to prioritize the health of his staff and customers.

"When three people in our staff tested positive we decided to shut down the restaurant for at least 10-12 days to give everybody a chance to go get tested multiple times," he told KCBS Radio.

Lahlou hopes to reopen Aziza on Thursday. He is trying to remain positive, but said it’s going to be a bumpy road.

"This is not something that’s going to go away anytime soon," said Lahlou. "How we choose to deal with it is the difference."
