The Natividad Hospital in Salinas got a welcomed gift this holiday season from the nearby Monterey Bay Aquarium. Just before receiving 975 doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine, which needs to be stored at an ultra-cold temperature, the aquarium loaned one of theirs to the hospital.
The vaccine needs to be stored at a temperature of -94 degrees Fahrenheit and the hospital had planned to use dry ice until a donation-funded freezer arrived. An aquarium doctor noted that they were honored to loan out one of their freezers for the cause.
The aquarium remains closed & has been since March. We'll let you know whenever they are able to safely reopen to the public.
