Two people killed in a Bodega Bay crash witnessed by dozens of onlookers this past weekend have been identified as a Pleasanton elementary school teacher and her mother.

The two women died when their SUV went off a scenic overlook near a trail head, crashing upside down about 100 feet below onto a rock-strewn beach. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims in Saturday's crash as 41-year-old Elizabeth Correia and her mother, 64-year-old Maria Teixeira.

Correia was a first-grade teacher at Lydiksen Elementary School and Teixeira was the lead custodian at Montevideo Elementary School in San Ramon.

The two Dublin residents were in a gold Toyota RAV4 that plunged from the overlook at a large parking lot near the Bodega Head Trail just after 11:30 a.m. as holiday weekend visitors watched. Authorities said the SUV drove through a wooden barrier and across the lot without braking.

They're still trying to determine if the crash was accidental or intentional.
