Contra Costa County is getting a brand new fire station.
The new Fire Station 86 will serve Bay Point, Pittburg and other areas that have seen significant growth in recent years.
Contra Costa Fire Chief Louis Brochard told KCBS Radio the station will replace the existing facility on Willow Pass Road, which has served the community for over 75 years.
“The new Fire Station 86 will have improved—and more appropriate—facilities to better support for our firefighters, allowing for better quality of life, health, training and community interaction,” Chief Brochard said.

The structure will also be designed with cancer prevention in mind.
“Including delineating what we call clean and dirty sides of the station to keep potentially cancer causing contaminants out of our living quarters and living spaces within the fire station,” Chief Brochard added.
He said that with the potential for longer, dryer wildfire seasons, the station will allow for additional space, if needed.
“This station is going to be built to also house additional personnel, in the event we staff up additional fire engines for red flag,” he said.
Construction should be completed by the end of 2022.
