SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Earlier hopes for an out-of-commission Bay Bridge toll lane to return this week, have been dashed.

Toll lane 13 has been shut down since Sunday night when a truck demolished the unmanned booth. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Officials on Monday told KCBS Radio that the toll lane was expected to be reopened by the end of the week. However, that timetable has since changed to where the repairs are not expected to be finished until the end of the month, according to Metropolitan Transportation Commission spokesperson John Goodwin.

The fix turned out to be a bit more complicated than originally predicted. Electronics now need to be installed under the ruin of toll booth 13, by way of the pedestrian tunnel, Goodwin said.

The agency plans to eliminate all the toll booths in the next few years, the last of which is slated to be demolished in 2026.

The current repairs are unrelated to the greater redevelopment plan.

"This is just to meet the immediate need caused by this accident a couple days ago," Goodwin told KCBS Radio. "This is a band aid."

In addition, the next lane over, toll both 14, which has been closed the last couple of years, will remain so until further notice.
