A San Mateo woman who went missing in San Francisco's Potrero Hill over the weekend is "back home safe and sound," according to the creator of a Facebook group that aimed to find her.

Hillsborough Vice Mayor Christine Krolik wrote in the group on Tuesday night that Nikita New had returned home, three days after she had last been seen outside a theater in the neighborhood.

Jane Pine, New's friend, told KNTV that the 28-year-old went to Potrero Stage to see a musical with her friends, but she couldn't get in because she forgot her phone, which had her proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

"She told her group of friends she'd go for a walk while they watched the performance and she would meet them back at the theatre when the performance was over and they came out, she didn't come back," Pine told the news station.

Krolik wrote in the Facebook group that New got lost "trying to find her way back to the meeting place." After the sun went down, Krolik wrote that New became "frightened" and "avoided everyone" rather than reach out for help.

"She finally saw someone with whom she is acquainted and approached them, and they drove her home," Krolik wrote.

Krolik didn't say when New saw her acquaintance, and she didn't specify how much time had passed after New got lost. The San Francisco Police Department didn’t respond to KCBS Radio’s request for comment about the incident prior to publication.

"She will be getting the care that she needs, and there doesn't seem to have been any foul play involved," Krolik wrote. "The community did everything right by spreading the word of her disappearance, and we're certain that, due to these efforts, Nikita would have been spotted and safely returned."
