Get ready to ditch the bus, Sausalito commuters – the ferries are back.
The route from Sausalito to San Francisco officially relaunched Wednesday morning.
The service had been suspended since March, not due to the pandemic, but to address some much needed repairs to the floating dock in Sausalito.
The schedule is limited though, there is a boat at 8:20 a.m., but the next one isn’t until 5 p.m. There still aren’t enough commuters to fill out the schedule, said Golden Gate Bridge and Highway Transportation District spokesperson Paolo Cosulich-Schwartz: "At this point ridership is still impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic."
According to Cosulich-Schwartz, ridership is at only 10% of what it would be normally.
"We haven’t seen overcrowding on our ferries," he said. "We’ll be monitoring ridership over the summer months as people get back to moving and recreating in the region and we’ll be adjusting service to meet that demand as it comes back."
Other routes, Larkspur and Tiburon, are still in operation, but only during the week.
Masks are still required during the ferry rides.
