Novato High School sheltered in place on Friday while the Novato Police Department investigated a note discovered on campus claiming there was a bomb in a school gym. A Novato police spokesperson told KCBS Radio that a student found the note, informing staff who then told the school resource officer.
The note, according to police, was found inside of an Easter egg on the same day the school held an Easter egg hunt for students, but wasn't one of the eggs from the activity.
The school resource officer called in the bomb threat at 11:44 a.m. Police announced at 12:23 p.m. that the campus had locked down.
A Novato school district official told KCBS Radio in an email on Friday afternoon that staff and students stopped sheltering in place at 1:50 p.m. after a bomb-sniffing dog "thoroughly searched the campus." Police said the California Highway Patrol loaned the canine to assist in the investigation.
Police said anyone with information about the bomb threat's origin can contact the Novato Police Department, referencing case "NP22-1327."
