OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS RADIO) – Close friends of a bakery owner who died after an attempted robbery earlier this week remember a multi-faceted woman, who was vested in Oakland.

Jennifer Angel, 48, ran Angel Cakes, located under the BART tracks in Jack London Square. Angel was accosted while leaving a parking garage on Webster Street earlier this week. A car pulled in front of her and someone smashed her car window stealing something inside.

Angel took off after them when they fled, but she was caught under their car and was dragged, hitting her head several times.

She was put in a medically induced coma and put on life support, but ultimately passed away due to her injuries Thursday evening, according to a GoFundMe created by those looking to support her business and loved ones.

Angel opened the bakery in 2008 and it was known for its beautiful cupcakes.

Her family hopes that people will remember her the way she would have wanted, and not for the circumstances that led to her passing.

Angel was known for being an activist and anarchist amongst the community, according to the GoFundMe page.

“Jen believed in a world where everyone has the ability to live a dignified and joyful life and worked toward an ecologically sustainable and deeply participatory society in which all people have access to the things they need, decisions are made by those most directly affected by them, and all people are free and equal,” the page organizer wrote on Thursday.

In accordance with her wishes, her organs are going to be donated, which will go towards helping as many as 70 people, according to the post.

As for the bakery itself, the shop will remain open through community support and Angel’s estate.
